In Asgard, there is a solemn
funeral for Blackjack O’Hare, Magni’s close friend. Then comes the coronation
in which Magni is made All-Father; his friends, the Warriors Four come to cheer
him up after the loss of his friend, with Hogun offering the wisest take on
grief. Then Magni’s mother, Amora the Enchantress, arrives, mocking his sorrow
over his dead friend and assuring him she had no part in it. He warns her
gravely but again she makes light of it, assuring him he will reign forever and
a day. She departs, locking the throne room doors behind her….
We then see Magni take on the
duties of All-Father, after one year, ten years, one hundred, one thousand, ten
thousand, by now aware that the doors have never opened, and he has never left.
Year one hundred thousand sees him still trying to batter down the doors. Year
one million makes him aware that Death is waiting for him. Year one hundred
million, one hundred billion and he is still not ready to die. Year Forever has
Magni treating Death as a companion, but still not yielding. And one day later,
Magni succumbs….
And Amora, her magical scheme
having succeeded, takes the throne as the All-Mother and Death departs….
Meanwhile, in Valhalla, Magni
enters the halls of the heroic dead to be reunited with Blackjack O’Hare and
they plan to “blow this popsicle stand….”
