Incredible Hulk #6 Review by (November 22, 2023)

Review: Some serious visuals mark this issue featuring the monster at the tale’s start, Bruce’s transformation which has an IMMORTAL HULK vibe (meaning it’s disgusting), and the two-page spread featuring the arrival of the new Ghost Rider. Nic Klein outdoes himself. And then there’s that guy haunted by the monster in his dreams; I can’t wait to see where that goes. Not a lot new with the characters: Charlie still dealing with guilt, Bruce still dealing with the Hulk’s voice in his head, more on that as we go along.

Comments: First appearance of this vintage WW2 Ghost Rider. Charlie killed her abusive father in issue #1.

Synopsis / Summary / Plot

Incredible Hulk #6 Synopsis by Peter Silvestro

In a small Texas camp, the inhabitants are going about their daily lives, with a little boy named Leo playing on a rusted antique motorcycle that once belonged to his uncle Sal, when a monster invades the area. It is a vicious predator with a face like a Mayan mask and it catches and kills a man. A woman helps Leo to hide beneath a hut as the monster stalks them. Then the wheels of the motorcycle start to flame….

Bruce Banner and Charlie walk along the deserted road, the girl asks if it is true that she killed her father, like they said on the news. Bruce says it was more likely the car crash that did it. A pickup stops to offer them a ride to town and they are warned to not be out after dark when “something” hunts….

In town, a man is going out for the evening and asks his wife Shakes if she will be all right alone at home. He fantasizes about stabbing her to death but walks out without incident. He drives along the street and sees a young couple crossing with the light. He imagines running them down and, to calm himself, he keeps repeating “My mind is quiet and still” while the Mayan monster called Jinni Dagaal haunts his thoughts….

Bruce and Charlie are brought to the camp to spend the night and they will be taken into town the next day. They are offered beds but Bruce says he would prefer to sleep outdoors for their safety; he is again warned about the monster but insists. Charlie has spotted the old motorcycle and Leo tells her it is a World War 2 era bike that belonged to his uncle Sal; he rides it when the monsters come….

An elderly woman speaks to Bruce in the Hulk’s voice, warning him to run or something bad will happen to the people who took him in. Charlie asks Leo about “when the monsters come” and Leo tells her that Sal arrives to fight them. Then the bike bursts into flames once more. Charlie runs to tell Bruce but he is gone, his clothes left behind…

In the desert, Bruce transforms into Hulk and a World War 2 Ghost Rider, with army gear and a tommy gun, arrives to run down Hulk while shooting at him. GR tells Hulk that he protects the kid and that Hulk is about to die….
