Synopsis / Summary / Plot

Tales of Suspense #82 Synopsis by T Vernon
In the skies over Washington DC, Iron Man is locked in combat with the sleeker upgraded Titanium Man. The Soviet villain is completely confident of a victory this time worrying the surprised Shellhead. The crowd on the ground watches anxiously, joined by Pepper Potts and Happy Hogan, while Senator Byrd views the life-or-death struggle from his office in the Capitol. Iron Man releases a Freon bomb at his opponent which freezes Titanium Man’s armor and causes him to plummet to the ground; unfortunately a strong flex of the muscles shatters the icy shell and the villain is ready for action again. Iron Man leads his foe away from the crowds to an isolated area on the edge of the city and makes his stand. The upgraded titanium armor causes the hero’s repulsor rays to bounce back at him, pounding him into the ground. As the crowd rushes to see the climax of the epic confrontation, Iron Man uses his motorized skate wheels to run rings around his enemy, stalling for time. Titanium Man, however, unleashes a paralysis beam which stops the Golden Avenger in his tracks. Pepper rushes forward to ask Iron Man where she can find Tony Stark to help but the hero warns her away. Deducing that this girl means something to Iron Man, the villain turns his beam on her and demands that Iron Man surrender or she will be electrocuted….

Story #2

The Maddening Mystery of the Inconceivable Adaptoid!

Writer: Stan Lee. Penciler: Jack Kirby. Inker: Frank Giacoia. Colorist: ?.

Synopsis / Summary / Plot

Captain America spends a lonely tour of duty at Avengers Mansion, leafing through his scrapbook and drinking coffee supplied by Jarvis. Later, as he patrols the hallways, he sees first the figure of Agent Axis, then Fang the Warlord, followed by other long-dead wartime enemies. Trying to clear his head of the hallucinations, Cap suddenly finds himself battling Nazis with Bucky by his side, then wakes up in the mansion. After this he spies his old sergeant, and then the Scarlet Witch and Quicksilver, who are supposed to be in Europe, come to his rescue. When reality clears again, it is Jarvis holding Cap, and the butler easily lifts the hero and carries him to a bedroom. Meanwhile, SHIELD agents are mopping up A.I.M. headquarters and discover a piece of science equipment resembling a mummy case. The gravely injured Count Royale mutters that the Adaptoid is loose and will gain the final victory for A.I.M. Back at the mansion, "Jarvis" reveals that he is the Adaptoid, replacing the Avengers’ butler so he could drug Captain America and, using its abilities to make itself a perfect duplicate of any person, picking up Cap’s shield and taking his place.
