Synopsis

Black Widow (2014 series) #8 synopsis by reviewer Peter Silvestro
Rating: 4 stars

Black Widow is in Prague on a mission; she is in contact with Isaiah Ross who is in London for a mission. Isaiah sets out to collect payment from a client. Natasha is wearing a flight suit; she leaps from a high building and glides onto the top of a train moving through a snowy landscape. She enters, finds her quarry, and at gunpoint forces him to hand over his briefcase. Then there is a thump on the roof and Winter Soldier enters and Bucky and Nat are surprised to see one another. Bucky explains that he is there to stop a gang from robbing the train; Nat says she was hired to rob it. Then the gang members land atop the train. Nat and Bucky banter while moving along the train, firing at the bad guys and avoiding their return fire. They cling together and open a parachute that pulls them both away from the train but Nat is hit in the ankle by a baddies’ bullet. They head toward the only house in sight for refuge. They break in and find the place is deserted, Bucky bandages Nat’s wound. The baddies have called for backup, a helicopter dropping off fresh troops. Bucky volunteers to hold them off while Nat escapes. She balks and he explains that her job is to get the briefcase out of there, his is to stop the bad guys. As she heads for the door, he stops her, changes his mind and just tells her to be careful. [Likely he was going to mention their past love affair which she no longer remembers, it having been erased from her memory.] Bucky fights the baddies with a fury, leaping onto the copter, planning to execute the pilot for shooting Natasha….

In London, Isaiah goes to the client’s home, tases him and departs with the money. Outside, he hails a cab and names his hotel. The driver calls him by name…then he notices there are no door handles on the inside….

Black Widow (2014 series) #8 Review by (September 16, 2025)

Review: And now we have an action oriented issue, with Natasha teaming up with Winter Soldier to fight a gang of baddies. It uses the semi-realistic and cinematic art bits but the emphasis is still on the dynamic between the two, seen many times before and since. But now there’s something going unsaid because of someone tinkering with her mind. And in the end she still thinks she works better alone, which many teammates would beg to differ with. The real teamwork is supplied by Isaiah who is caught up in a real mission for the first time, rather than working around the edges. He is Nat’s real partner for most of these issues, the one arranging her jobs. And now he’s caught in the middle.

Comments: Part one of four parts.
