Synopsis

Captain America: Sentinel of Liberty #3 Synopsis by Peter Silvestro

At a casino in Madripoor, Winter Soldier confronts Peggy Carter about her involvement with the Outer Circle and their manipulation of history….

Captain America is at the Forge, the green energy power plant in Germany, battling Starpoint, a huge silvery man whose hands can change to sharp points. Starpoint tells Cap he has been redacted, “History will not remember you.” As Cap battles the brute, he recalls similar experiences during the War and he opens up a flow of lava directed at his foe. Several more powerful attacks and the injured Starpoint escapes though a portal; Cap realizes that his enemy was a man, not a machine. Knowing that wind power does not cause lava to flow, Cap searches the lower areas of the Forge until he discovers a volcano lair. He sees a table with an indent that fits his shield. Placing his shield into it activates a recording of the shield’s designer, Dr. Boka Agboje explaining how the shield resembles the symbol of the Outer Circle which he says is playing a game with world affairs and he hopes Cap will fight for freedom, having reclaimed the shield. A hologram of the Outer Circle member called the Machine, a regal Asian woman, appears before him. She had hoped to prevent Cap from hearing the message; she came too late so she activates a series of bombs throughout the facility and Cap starts running, barely making it out alive….

Bucky and Peggy fight, wrecking the casino as she tells him to stay out of her business. As he lies unconscious on the floor, she tells him he will never see her again….

At Steve Rogers’ local boxing gym, Starpoint waits in the shadows, repeating the message that Steve Rogers has been redacted, “History will not remember you….”

Captain America: Sentinel of Liberty #3 Review by (August 10, 2022)

Review: Spectacular art pushes this issue to a new height. Cap versus Starpoint takes great advantage of the elaborate Forge setting, leading to an even more impressive sequence wherein Cap escapes from the place as it self-destructs. And there’s a violent scrap between Bucky and Peggy, proving a metal arm does not guarantee victory. We learn a little more about the Outer Circle and especially how Cap’s shield was their symbol. So they are a clandestine organization manipulating history at least since 1944; how did they coordinate their moves with the dozens of other comic book cabals doing pretty much the same thing over the years? I’m sure we’ll find out and also discover Peggy Carter’s place in the scheme.

Comments: Written by Jackson Lanzing & Collin Kelly. There is a brief reminder that Peggy Carter was the head of the Daughters of Liberty during Ta-Nehisi Coates’ run, though still no explanation of how she grew young and vital again, having died an old woman in the comic in 2011.
