Captain America #22 Review by (August 19, 2020)

Review: Action filled issue perks the series up a bit and we are slowly getting closer to issue #25 when something is supposed to happen. Some nice character moments, especially Sharon’s rejection of dependency and Selene’s villain monologue.

Captain America #22 Synopsis by Peter Silvestro

Sharon Carter and Toni Ho look in on General Thunderbolt Ross, who explains that an LMD (Life Model Decoy) was killed in his place, and now he is guarded by Misty Knight and Dryad. He reveals how Alexa Lukin insinuated herself into the good graces of the United States by playing a key role in the war against Hydra, then charming the President. Ross’ explanation is cut off and Toni discovers Cap is in trouble in Adamsville….

In Adamsville, Ohio, Captain America, Falcon, and Winter Soldier are battling Selene, her demon assistants, and the men of the city who have been hypnotized into serving her. The three heroes find it difficult trying not to harm their assailants while Selene shoots Falcon out of the sky. But the distraction breaks her control over the men so Cap is able to fling his shield and hit both the demon harassing Bucky and Selene. The trio takes her on….

Sharon, watching remotely, knows they can’t defeat her. Then Agatha Harkness arrives bringing Shuri who wonders why they didn’t call her in before; Sharon reveals that it is her soul at stake and she is tired of asking other people to risk their lives for her…and it all ends now….

Selene has Cap at her mercy, shedding her cape and attacking. She and Cap fight. She bites him, subdues him, and prepares to take his soul—when she is hit by an energy beam. A portal opens in the sky and Shuri and an army of birds emerges, led by Sharon Carter in a red-white-and-blue armor….
