A red-haired teenage girl stands with Yu-Ti, the August Personage In Jade, as the Phoenix Force approaches Earth. She unleashes an opposing Dragon Spirit and the 2 contend with each other until they merge and the girl stands in control of both, but with a hint of darkness.

Yu-Ti awakes from this prophetic dream in his bed in K'un-Lun hundreds of years ago. It transpires that he's been having this dream frequently. He writes down his thoughts and then breaks with tradition by going out alone amongst his people looking for the red-haired girl. He watches the Thunderer training students in martial arts then asks Lei Kung if he knows of such a girl, but he doesn't. He consults the scrying pool of Bo-Ling which shows him the PF coming from the cosmos, but it can tell him nothing of the girl he seeks.

That night he has the dream again, but this time the girl emerges as a beacon of hope. Again he walks among the people without Lei Kung or his guards, ignoring the Thunderer's protests. But Lei Kung accompanies him and this time they see a flash of red hair by the docks. Yu-Ti asks her name but her mother says she doesn't or can't speak. The girl is sullen but her mother says her name is Fongji which means Firebird. Yu-Ti ventures that the unusual hair and Caucasian complexion mean that her father is from the outside world, and she was conceived during the last time K'un-Lun was in contact with the Earthly plane.

Yu-Ti says that Fongji must come with him to the temple to be trained by the Thunderer. He tells Lei Kung that she will be the next Iron Fist. The Thunderer points out that they haven't had an IF for 75 years, but Yu-Ti says now they're going to need 1.

And today the current Lei Kung is reading this in the presence of the current Yu-Ti. The August Personage tells him that he must go to Earth and tell the current Iron Fist (Danny Rand) what he needs to do. If they fail then Earth will fall bringing K'un-Lun down with it.

New Avengers (2010 series) #25 Review by (February 7, 2026)
The misleading cover has an Iron Fist with a Phoenix chest-emblem which looks more like Danny Rand than a red-haired female.

The actual division of work between Mike Deodato and Will Conrad seems more complicated than just penciller/inker.

Most of this issue and the next are set hundreds of years in the past. But the bits in the present fit between Avengers Vs X-Men #6 and #7.

K'un-Lun is an extradimensional mystical city which appears occasionally on Earth in the Himalayas. It was where Danny Rand gained his Iron Fist powers in Marvel Premiere #15.

He is only 1 in a long line of bearers of the power, gained by defeating the dragon Shou-Lao. The recent Immortal Iron Fist series explored some of the previous IFs.

Yu-Ti, the August Personage In Jade, is a title that has been born by more than 1 long-lived person who all wore the same anonymous green robes. In the historical period of this issue it was a man named Tu-An. But in the current period it was his son Wu-An.
It is notable here that Yu-Ti wears the green hood which hides his head even while asleep in bed.

On the other hand Lei Kung, the Thunderer, is immortal and has trained all the IFs. Wu-An was corrupt (as seen as far back as IF's MPrem run) and LK deposed him in the IIF series and took his place as Yu-Ti.
Thus it is somewhat anomalous that in the current part of this storyline there is a Yu-Ti talking to Lei Kung.
