Story Name:

The Last Days of Midgard, Part Five of Five: Blood of the Earth

Synopsis

Thor: God of Thunder #23 synopsis by Peter Silvestro
Rating: 3 stars

Far future: the Goddesses of Thunder take on Galactus but the contest is interrupted by the arrival of King Thor, melded with the Black Sword of the God Butcher, swooping down to destroy the Devourer of Worlds….

In present-day Broxton, Avenger Thor is being beaten by Ulik and his trolls, allies of Roxxon’s Dario Agger. Agger then turns into his minotaur form to attack Thor while ordering the trolls to wreck the town. But now that Agger is revealed to be a monster, Thor no longer has to pull his punches….

For the next several pages, Thor’s battle with the trolls alternates pages, then panels, with King Thor versus Galactus. In Broxton, Roz Solomon arrives, gunning down trolls left and right as Agger makes a villain-type speech sounding dominant. In the future Galactus makes a similar boast while the granddaughters warn their sire to beware the effects of the evil sword. More dark and violent scenes ensue….

The present story ends with Thor victorious and Agger denying everything as he is taken into custody. The God of Thunder weeps for the fate of Broxton. In the future, Galactus lies (apparently) dead and King Thor’s blood waters the earth and vegetation springs forth, postponing the last day of Midgard….

Thor: God of Thunder #23 Review by (June 25, 2014)
Review: So a clever story with Thor facing sinister lawyers builds up to the villain killing his legal reps for no reason and Thor fighting Ulik and a Minotaur? Sounds like they ran out of ideas; at least we’re promised a resolution to the destruction of Broxton next ish. And wait…is Galactus dead? Could be…which makes this story cooler than expected. But not much.
