Synopsis

Daredevil (1964 series) #212 synopsis by reviewer Anthony Silvestro
Rating: 2.5 stars

The Kingpin commands several of his men to attack Daredevil. Daredevil decisively takes them out as a warning to the rest of Fisk’s men gathered there. Fisk explains that they are working together to take down Micah Synn and that some of them may have to take orders from Daredevil in the coming weeks. Daredevil makes it clear that this arrangement lasts only as soon as they take down Synn, and that when everything is done, he’ll be coming after them next. Meanwhile, back in his penthouse Micah Synn commands the Vikah to get rid of the body of Vanessa’s impersonator, killed last issue. Dr. Piper arrives to tell Micah that Becky Blake is planning to call a press conference telling everyone that he tried to kill her. Synn does not deny this, knowing Piper will serve him anyway, and Piper wonders what he’s gotten himself into.

At Nelson and Murdock, Foggy argues with Debbie about something she asked him to do, and finally relents when she threatens to leave him! The press conference begins and Matt introduces Becky to the gathered reporters. Becky explains how Micah Synn had her and another woman kidnapped last issue to be used in a ritual sacrifice and how the other woman died trying to save her! Matt continues, beginning to declare Synn totally corrupt when Foggy interrupts, claiming that everything being said is nothing but lies! The news reports that Foggy claimed Matt and Becky made the whole thing up, as Debbie asks Micah if she did well. Later, Matt tries to clear his head to no avail and ignores Foggy when he rings Matt’s doorbell.

Instead, Matt heads out as Daredevil and arrives at a zoo where some of Synn’s men are receiving a payoff of protection money. He takes out Synn’s guys as stylishly as ever until the last guy attempts to flee. Still thrown off by Foggy’s earlier actions, Daredevil ends up getting blindsided by the Vikah and falls into the tiger den. The Vikah antagonizes the tigers to get them to attack Daredevil, forcing him to have to kill them to protect himself. Daredevil heads out from this perceived waste of time, still wondering why Foggy said what he said. The next morning, Synn bemoans the fact that Daredevil still plagues him, as at the same moment, Matt is visited by Glorianna. He notes how terrible he, and especially Becky, feel after Foggy’s statements. Foggy himself then shows up and Matt initially dismisses him. Foggy explains that he was scared for his marriage, as Debbie threatened to leave him if he didn’t tell those lies. After a moment of contemplation, Matt forgives the clearly distraught Foggy. Finally, Debbie talks with Micah about divorcing Foggy so she can be with him, and his only response is to slap her hard across the face, leaving her absolutely stunned! To be continued!

Daredevil (1964 series) #212 Review by (December 17, 2025)

Review: Daredevil and Kingpin join forces to take on Micah Synn! Only, it doesn’t really amount to much yet. Daredevil doesn’t utilize said partnership this issue, not doing anything that he couldn’t do by himself. Daredevil and Kingpin joining forces against a mutual enemy is a cool idea that will be revisited in future stories. I just wish that here, it was against someone cooler than Micah Synn. And of course, with Micah Synn comes a ton of frustrating writing decisions. Chief among these is the fact that Debbie’s affair with Micah becomes more blatant. After mostly having been confined to odd comments from Debbie, she now fully admits plans to divorce Foggy in order to be with Micah! Joke’s on her though as his reaction is to slap her hard across the face, leading her to immediately start re-evaluating that decision. I think it’s supposed to come across as tragic in sort of a Joker/Harley Quinn way, but the whole thing just feels frustrating and poorly conceived. Ever since this storyline started, Debbie’s been written as a completely different character than before, and the whole thing just leaves a bad taste in my mouth.

The most frustrating occurrence though, comes when Becky is finally going to speak out publicly against Micah Synn and Foggy lies to the press that she made the whole thing up, at Debbie’s insistence. I understand that Foggy was worried for his marriage (and he shows an appropriate amount of regret) but I just don’t buy that he would ever do that, regardless of the circumstances. He’s not that spineless. In addition to these frustrating writing decisions, there were also multiple sections of mostly wordless sequences that honestly felt like padding, showing that there wasn’t actually much story this issue, beyond the aforementioned occurrences. A good third of the issue involves Daredevil stopping a money transfer with Synn’s men at a zoo, that Daredevil even acknowledges in the issue as being a waste of time. Though these sequences are mindless fluff, they’re at least well-drawn, stylish action sequences. Given my distaste with the writing in this issue, the art alone saves this issue from being even lower.

Comments: Part one of the War on Micah Synn.
