Synopsis

Daredevil (1964 series) #207 synopsis by reviewer Anthony Silvestro
Rating: 3.5 stars

The Black Widow has been captured by HYDRA and she’s forced to call Matt Murdock. They want him to contact Daredevil and have him bring a microchip that was stolen by a Russian defector named Anton Krapotkin in exchange for Natasha’s life. While conveying this message, Black Widow also conveys another message for Daredevil by tapping her foot in Morse code, unbeknownst to her captors. Meanwhile, Matt gets Glorianna set up in her own apartment and offers to take her to dinner later. Not long after, they head to the hospital where Micah Synn is being held after his last tussle with Daredevil. With his English greatly improved, Micah is able to manipulate the media by claiming that Daredevil kept hitting him and he was a harmless victim. Debbie shuts down Foggy’s comments to the contrary which catches the attention of both Matt and Glorianna, and Matt wonders if Micah is starting to mean something to Debbie…

Elsewhere, the HYDRA agents tie up Black Widow from head to toe as she wonders why Daredevil hasn’t arrived yet and if he got her message. Turns out, Matt received the call but the message was too garbled to make out her Morse Code. Left with no other option, Daredevil heads out to find Krapotkin and the microchip. He first goes to Ben Urich for information, who tells him that Krapotkin apparently works in construction. Back at HYDRA’s lair, the leader of the small squad is alerted that Krapotkin may have been found and he sends a team out to check it out. Low on time, Daredevil heads to Josie’s and, rather than his usual methods of interrogation, offers to pay money for information on the local construction business.

Armed with his new knowledge, Daredevil heads to the construction site of a new office building to find that HYDRA have located the place too! Daredevil uses the dark to stealthily take out the HYDRA agents, though the commotion spooks the night watchman who tries to escape down the freight elevator. Daredevil catches up to him to discover that he’s Anton Krapotkin! He surrenders peacefully, revealing that he was forced to steal the microchip in the first place after his family was threatened. Before he can say any more, he’s shot dead by a remaining HYDRA sentry. Daredevil tracks the guy down and takes him out, though unsure how he’s going to find the microchip now. Realizing something is off if HYDRA sent agents to find Krapotkin while they still have Black Widow, Daredevil heads home to discover another message. This one tells him the location he can find Natasha at.

Meanwhile, at said location, the HYDRA leader sets up a bomb to kill both Black Widow and Daredevil when he arrives, considering it a consolation prize for failing to recover the microchip. He injects Natasha with something to paralyze her vocal chords, preventing her from warning Daredevil in any way. Not long after, Daredevil arrives and doesn’t initially sense anything suspicious. He makes his way to the tied up Natasha, who can’t make a sound to warn him about the bomb. However, as he gets closer to the bomb’s trigger point, her rapidly increasing heartrate tips him off that something is wrong. He ends up freeing her and the two of them take out the remaining HYDRA agents. Back at Matt’s apartment, Natasha mourns Krapotkin, thinking HYDRA wouldn’t find him, and reveals that she had the microchip the whole time, hidden under a fake fingernail! While Matt admonishes the danger she put herself in, she admits that she always believed that he would come to rescue her!

Daredevil (1964 series) #207 Review by (November 12, 2025)

Review: A few issues ago, Black Widow helped out Daredevil with a problem and now Daredevil gets to return the favor! Daredevil is pitted against HYDRA, which you don’t see too often, to save her after she’s captured and held for ransom in exchange for a stolen microchip. Turns out Natasha had it the whole time, which is really unfortunate for the defector who HYDRA thought had it. It’s a pretty decent A plot, and Daredevil gets a nice sequence of beating up HYDRA goons at a construction site. It’s a little flimsy, as the plot could only happen as such because the call to Matt happened to be choppy, preventing him from hearing the Morse Code Natasha was using, but the story has to happen somehow. There’s also a little B plot with more Micah Synn stuff. Sarcastic yay. Micah’s English has improved exponentially in between issues somehow and he’s now savvy enough to manipulate the media to make Daredevil look like the bad guy in their latest tussle. And O’Neil continues to go out of his way to write Debbie as frustratingly as possible by having her defend Micah, as in the same guy who brutally attacked her husband and supposed friends just last issue! Ugh. Thankfully it’s a small part of this issue, leaving the decent Hydra stuff to garner most of the rating.

Comments: This issue contains a random single-panel unspeaking appearance for Luke Cage and Iron Fist.
