Synopsis

Daredevil (1964 series) #202 synopsis by reviewer Anthony Silvestro
Rating: 2.5 stars

Happy to be back in fighting form, Daredevil makes in way back to his law office where he overhears a conversation between Foggy and Becky. Foggy got a new door put in with his name drastically bigger than Matt’s, justifying that he’s been the one holding down the fort while Matt’s been away. Becky guesses that his wife put him up to it, when Matt walks in. Not long after, they’re visited by a client named Horatio Piper, a professor representing a Chief Micah and his two wives. Piper explains that Chief Micah is the head of the Kinjorge tribe located in Eastern Africa. The Kinjorge are descendants of British explorers who were cut off from civilization and reverted to savagery in their enclosed little tribe for hundreds of years until they were recently discovered. Piper wants Nelson and Murdock to be their legal representation since everyone’s going to want a piece of this story. After they leave, Becky notes that Chief Micah’s wives were laughing at Matt and her, likely because they’re both handicapped.

On a nearby street, Micah ends up assaulting a shop owner when he tries to take food without paying, causing nearby police to get involved. After a struggle, the three of them manage to subdue and arrest him, prompting Piper to call Nelson and Murdock for assistance. The next day, Foggy is able to bail out Chief Micah and Piper explains that due to his way of life, Micah saw nothing wrong with what he did. One of Micah’s wives then wanders off when she sees a food cart and ends up getting struck by a car. She’s taken to the hospital while Daredevil follows to watch over everything, noting how Micah’s heartbeat indicates he feels nothing for his wife’s condition. Soon after, the wife dies at the hospital and Micah ends up assaulting the cop who arrested him earlier and hangs him out of the window! Daredevil intervenes and ends up fighting Micah, surprised by his strength. Daredevil tricks Micah into hitting an electrical box, using the opportunity to stylishly subdue him. Daredevil notes that due to his basic emotional state and ruthlessness, Micah may be the most dangerous man he’s ever met!

Synopsis

A young boy named Dirk McGirk dresses up like Daredevil, or as he calls him Daringdevil, for his class’s show and tell. He gives a report on Daredevil’s early history and the many villains he fought including “Elektra” (Electro), “The Bowel” (The Owl), and the “Gradiator” (Gladiator). He finishes up his misspelling-filled report with the women in Daredevil’s life, the Blank Window and Electro (Black Widow and Elektra). Dirk’s teacher is furious, when suddenly Daredevil punches Turk through the window of the classroom. Daredevil thanks Dirk for his “help” and swings off with Turk, to the cheers of the whole classroom. Dirk’s teacher refuses to believe that was the real Daredevil and thinks Dirk had a hand in it. She’s forced to dismiss class early due to all the broken glass and the other kids cheer on the incredulous Dirk as their hero!

Daredevil (1964 series) #202 Review by (October 8, 2025)

Review: We get two underwhelming stories for the price of one this issue, courtesy of Assistant Editor’s Month! The first story involves Nelson and Murdock becoming legal representatives for a recently discovered African tribe descended from British explorers. The idea that the tribe descended into savagery after being cut off from civilization in Africa brings with it some unfortunate and borderline insensitive implications. Honestly, there’s really not much to this story and it feels as if it’s unfinished. Daredevil gets to have a fairly cool fight with the Chief, Micah, but it ends pretty abruptly after that. It feels like the issue was rushed out. There are little ideas that are brought up and dropped and Foggy acts pretty out of character when he changes the door to their office to make his name much bigger than Matt’s. He claims it’s because he’s been holding down the fort while Matt’s been away (even though he suggested that Matt take a vacation). It’s a very odd addition to an already underwhelming story.

The second story is also kind of dumb and goofy, but this one is at least supposed to be dumb and goofy. A kid gives a report on Daredevil’s history full of misspellings (including swapping Electro and Elektra) that gets interrupted when the real Daredevil punches Turk into his classroom. The kid’s speech balloons are also filled with misspellings which can make it a little obnoxious to read and Daredevil comes off much more “standard superhero” than usual. “Good work, citizen!” and all that. Still, this one at least had a cute kind of charm, unlike the first story.

Comments: The Judge’s name in the first story is Carstairs, the same name as the victim from last issue. The cop that arrests Micah changes from African American to Caucasian throughout the issue. This issue corresponded with Assistant Editor’s Month, including a second short story with a backup creative team.
