Synopsis

Daredevil (1964 series) #204 synopsis by reviewer Anthony Silvestro
Rating: 2.5 stars

Crowds gather as Chief Micah of the Kinjorge Tribe and his wife head to board the subway for the first time. Foggy offers some words to the press as Micah’s attorney about his history descended from English explorers in East Africa. Foggy’s wife Debbie points out they’re already down in the subway station, where Daredevil watches over Micah from the rafters. Just then, Daredevil senses someone about to fire a weapon at Micah and he knocks Micah out of the way. In doing so, Micah’s wife falls onto the tracks just as a train is coming, forcing Daredevil to let the assassin go to rescue her. Later, the assassin, named Crossbow, meets with his employer Barrington Synn. Turns out, Micah is descended from the same family as Synn, and he wants Micah dead before anyone can learn of this fact!

Daredevil continues to tail Micah as he rides the subway. Micah’s wife starts to feel ill which only causes Micah to laugh, which Foggy chalks up to a difference of customs. Later, Debbie makes some calls to get Micah invited to a large party she’s throwing, thinking his presence would make her soiree unforgettable. Matt arrives soon after and expresses his concerns about Micah. He suggests that they let Micah go as a client unless they can figure out who’s trying to kill him. Foggy makes the suggestion that it could have something to do with Micah’s family, since killers usually have a reason to want their target dead. They contact Professor Piper who figures out Micah is descended from the Synn family. While Foggy and Debbie get ready for the party, Matt heads as Daredevil to discover what he can about Barrington Synn.

He heads to Synn’s hotel room and overhears him talking with Crossbow about killing Micah at the party, which Daredevil confirms after interrogating Synn. At the party, Debbie greets the newest guest, a rather disheveled Tony Stark. Micah arrives not long after and starts making a mess, gorging himself on the food and spitting out the wine. Debbie decides to show him around and leads him to the master suite where Micah ends up kissing Debbie and she doesn’t reject him. Meanwhile, Daredevil intercepts Crossbow on the balcony outside and stops him from killing Micah. Micah gets involved too and grabs Daredevil when he’s distracted by a drunken Tony Stark wandering outside to try and help. Daredevil overcomes Micah and takes out Crossbow, telling Micah that he’d better stay out of trouble or he won’t be so nice next time. Foggy wanders outside and sees all the commotion when Debbie mentions she’s phoned the police. Foggy notices Debbie crying, and she claims not to know why, while she and Micah share a look…

Daredevil (1964 series) #204 Review by (October 22, 2025)

Review: A couple of issues ago, I mentioned how the first story involving Chief Micah felt unfinished. That’s because it was, as the story continues in this issue and after as a subplot for the next 10 issues or so. Oh joy. I don’t exactly love this storyline, and there are a bunch of frustrating decisions made in this issue. First off, though it’s referenced loosely a couple of times, the events of #202 are mostly brushed over, as apparently Micah didn’t face any repercussions for trying to kill a cop. Second, and most frustratingly, Foggy’s wife Debbie ends up cheating on him with Micah! After he’s acted like a wild, violent slob who barely speaks English the entire time! It just feels so unnecessary and bizarre and just leaves a bad taste in my mouth. Also, Daredevil gets to fight Green Arro—I mean Crossbow, hired by Micah’s distant relative Barrington Synn (O’Neil loves his weird names) to kill Micah before their relation can be discovered. He doesn’t put up much of a fight. There’s also a pretty embarrassing appearance by Tony Stark, completely drunk at a party. It coincides with an Iron Man issue right before this where Tony confronts his alcoholism, but doesn’t make it any less unflattering. I’m not even sure why he’s here, he doesn’t show up anywhere else in this storyline. Overall, a standard enough plot full of frustrating or bizarre decisions.

Comments: Micah’s last name is revealed to be Synn. An annotation summarizes events that happened in issue #202, and incorrectly says it was last issue. First appearance of Crossbow.
