Hulk #14 Review by (April 26, 2023)

Review: The series wraps up in a mostly satisfying fashion though I admit I’m not sure I understood all of the philosophical implications behind all the smashing and destruction. Was hoping to see more of Spaceship Hulk’s adventures and Ryan Ottley holds out the possibility, though it may manifest itself in a miniseries or two. The new writer is under no obligation to remember anything the previous creative teams have done, as has been seen quite often.

Comments: Last issue of the series. The letters page includes a missive from writer-artist Ryan Ottley thanking the readers for their interest in his and Donny Cates’ strange new idea.

Hulk #14 Synopsis by Peter Silvestro

Bruce Banner, trapped in the Mind Palace, watches helplessly as Titan destroys Hulk Planet, preparing to devour Monolith. Titan commands his servant D’Spayre to guard Doctor Strange’s astral form; the Fear Lord relates how a mysterious being on the other side of the green door gave him a tiny piece of his power (looking like a red marble); D’Spayre planted it within Bruce Banner’s mind where it secretly grew into the Titan, who now plans to invade Earth and drain it of its gamma. Strange’s human form, restrained by Doc Samson (in Sasquatch’s body), fights back, blasting D’Spayre into Titan who drops Monolith, realizing she was siphoning his power but Monolith blasts the weakened Titan out into space. But then she realizes that, by hitting him with er power, she hasn’t destroyed him but fed him. All her subjects offer up their gamma to strengthen her, including the newly arrived Doc Samson. D’Spayre continues to attacks Strange until he fights back, forcing the Fear Lord into an orb, trapping him. And then Titan returns and Bruce pleads with Hulk to show himself. As Titan starts to kill Monolith an d Strange, Hulk arises and tears through Titan’s brain before transforming into Bruce Banner and slipping into unconsciousness….

Bruce awakens back on Earth at Strange Academy, where Samson has left him a letter, asking him not to blame himself for Titan’s actions. Samson is on Hulk planet, helping them rebuild and a standard spaceship allows Bruce to come for a visit. The Titan power is still in Bruce’s trauma centers but he can keep it under control. Then we see the imprisoned Titan and the red marble drops out of his eye and is reclaimed by the mystery being behind the green door….
