Synopsis

Red Hulk (2025 series) #3 synopsis by ?
Rating: 4 stars

Thunderbolt Ross, Deathlok Prime, a depowered Machine Man, and Dr. Simon Ryker have escaped from Doom’s dungeon into the wilderness of Latveria but now they are facing a giant Doombot made up of a swarm of Doombots. The Doombot orders them to surrender or be destroyed. Ross knows there is a nuclear plant one hundred klicks (kilometers/62 miles) away where he can absorb enough radiation to allow him to transform into Red Hulk again, so that is his objective. Ryker, however, doesn’t trust Ross and decides this is an “every man for himself” operation so he pushes Ross off a cliff and runs for it. As he jumps a ravine, Ryker is electrocuted in midair; a small moan reveals that he is still alive. Meanwhile, Deathlok scoops up Machine Man and dives down the cliff after Ross. They roll down the steep incline and aim for a snowfield which Ross thinks will frustrate the Doombots’ vision, based on motion capture and thermal imaging. As they head through a forest, Ross tells Deathlok to contact an Air Force base and ask for rescue and to prepare for a wider conflict with Latveria….

Doctor Doom, addressing the United Nations General Assembly, is made aware of the situation and calls for a recess of one hour….

The response comes back that they are unable to acknowledge this message due to the current treaty. The same response comes from every US military base. Deathlok suggests that Doom has activated all of the war scenarios they had provided him. They are attacked by Doombots that have traced the radio transmission. Deathlok clobbers one by swinging Machine Man as a weapon. Ross destroys another by jamming an antler into its face. When the last one is down, Ross gives them a message for Doom: Ross is coming for him. Ross then makes his exit: leaping from a perpendicular cliff toward a river below….

Doctor Doom arrives on the scene and the Doombots tell him that Ross’ objective is the nuclear plant. Doom decides that why guard a facility when a sorcerer can simply wipe it off the map….

Review / Commentaries

Red Hulk (2025 series) #3 Review by (April 30, 2025)

Review: A nice action-oriented issue, following the pattern set by the previous issues. Ross and company battle their way through Doombots on their way to freedom, a course filled with obstacles. The action/suspense formula is well handed by the writer, abetted by the artist. And the opening survey of Ross’ career as General and Hulk looks nice. The big question: Why aren’t several thousand Doombots in one place a more formidable enemy? Why does it take so long for them to get on Ross’ trail and only three of them at that? With those resources Ross should be doomed. But then there would be no story.

Comments: Bannered “ONE WORLD UNDER DOOM” as a tie-in to that event. Red Hulk appears only in a series of memories by Thunderbolt Ross. “Klick” is military jargon for kilometer, shorter and easier to understand.
