Synopsis

Red Hulk (2025 series) #4 synopsis by Peter Silvestro
Rating: 4 stars

Thunderbolt Ross, Deathlok Prime, and the powerless Machine Man have escaped from Doctor Doom’s dungeon in Latveria and are pursued by an army of Doombots. Pushed to the edge of a chasm, Ross sees that the only viable option is to jump into the river hundreds of feet below. They do and the icy water masks them from the Doombots’ thermal imaging and the current defies their motion capture tech. But Doctor Doom knows where they are going and has already taken measures….

They wash ashore further down the river, ready to head for the nuclear plant which represents Ross’ option for absorbing enough energy to transform into Red Hulk. They kill two deer, for food and to wear their hides as cloaks. They reach the site only to discover there is no nuclear plant there. Ross is certain of the location and Deathlok picks up traces of atomic energy, confirming this. They break into a nearby house to find it hastily abandoned. Ross logs onto a PC and discovers how Doctor Doom has conquered the world; he vows to never stop until Doom is defeated. Laer, Deathlok repairs the badly damaged Machine Man and Ross discovers a weapons cache. A Doombot breaks in through a window and Ross shoots it into little tiny pieces, feeling good. More Doombots invade and Ross tells Deathlok to trigger a nuclear event. So D’s computer hacks into Doom’s weapons satellite and launches a nuke at their location. As Deathlok and Machine Man flee, Ross remains, firing at Doombots until the bomb hits the house and, rising from the mushroom cloud, Red Hulk is back….

Review / Commentaries

Red Hulk (2025 series) #4 Review by (May 14, 2025)

Review: Another installment of what is basically an old-style serial, the heroes face and escape danger after danger in a headlong adrenaline rush until they win in the end. Well, that’s what we have here, climaxing in a stand-up-and-cheer moment when Red Hulk returns. All of which is the more surprising since Thunderbolt Ross occupied the role of villain for decades in the Marvel Universe, a point underscored in his solo series in HULK (2008) that he is a very unlikable hero. So this series actually marks an achievement in making Thunderbolt Ross someone to root for. Yay Ross! Down with Doom!

Comments: Bannered “ONE WORLD UNDER DOOM” as a tie-in to that event.
