In New Mexico, Thor descends from the sky to meet with a
Roman Catholic priest who has questions about Thor, especially his claims to
deity and the nature of faith. Thor insists he asks no one to follow him in the
religious sense. Yet people are doing so, notes the priest; Thor places himself
on the same level as the Christian God….
In Maine, Trent Skoglund picks up Ginny Casey in his new
car, now that the return of the lobsters has made the fishing town prosperous
again. Trent’s family now worships Thor though Ginny insists it must be the
Christian God who empowers Thor….
At the Church of Thor, the men practice sword fighting in
armor and speaking in fake old English. Lars Skoglund is having a rough time on
both points. Lars is still amazed that he saw Thor put the lobsters in the
ocean. Willie Lawson belittles the Catholic Church while praising Thor’s
bounty. Lars is uncomfortable with mocking his old faith but Willie drives it
home that Thor is the only god who gets results and Lars was set to kill
himself until Thor intervened. They decide to go downtown to see what the
Church is doing to the Thorists….
At the church, Trent finally makes it clear to Ginny that
his family are now Thorists and have abandoned the Catholic church. She begs
him to reconsider, so as not to offend her family but Trent is adamant. Father
Murphy is also offended so the kids leave….
In New Mexico, the priest sees Thor’s presence as a threat
to the Catholic Church’s mission. Thor points out that the Church has had
centuries to work and the world is no better as the Church befriends dictators
and oppresses the poor. The priest argues that they are interested in the next
life….
In Maine, there is a gathering at the Catholic Church where
Father Murphy reveals that the Skoglunds have become Thorists, leading the
Caseys to forbid Ginny from dating Trent any more….
Across town, a band of Thorists including Lars, are
concerned about a group gathered to oppose the Thorists; Willie Lawson gives a
pep talk about how they are a threat to Thor and his followers so they need to
be strong to fight Thor’s enemies….
In New Mexico, the priest tells Thor that the Pope will
issue a statement against the Thorists. Thor reiterates that he asks nothing
from anyone in return. He sees suffering, he remedies it. “Where is the crime?”
In Maine, Trent and Ginny come upon a band of Thorists, led
by Willie Lawson, criticizing the Pope’s statement condemning the Thorists.
They invite Ginny to join just as a party from the Catholic Church, led by
Father Williams and including her father, Charles Casey. Willie Lawson warns of
danger. Father Williams warns of danger, putting a gun in Mr. Casey’s hand. The
gun fires without Casey touching the trigger, bullets hitting Lloyd Cullen,
Lars’ friend. A fight ensues. Loki watches the violence from on high, having
interfered as both Willie Lawson and Father Williams. And at the hospital, the
news reports more of Loki’s doings, violent clashes between Thorists and
followers of other religions all over the world, with huge death and casualty
tolls. Meanwhile, the world fears Thor’s reaction. And at the Maine hospital we
see Trent and Ginny among the dead….
