Sigurd Jarlson is convicted of
Dario Agger’s murder and sentenced to thirty years in prison without parole. When
he is released it’s into a totalitarian world with green skies. He is unable to
obtain an apartment or a job on technicalities so he lives on the streets,
begging; Odin, passing by, rebukes him for asking for help. Odin orders him to
stand and look up; Sigurd stands and looks up to see the Midgard Serpent
watching over all….
In the outside world, Odin shows
the Serpent in the sky to Kris Seok and Lukki, explaining that Sigurd’s first trial
was to face Thor’s enemies; this is his second trial, enduring Thor’s doom.
Kris doesn’t understand any of this; Odin blames Lukki and orders him to tell
her everything. Lukki reveals himself as Loki and touches Kris’ forehead and
she does understand everything that is going on. Sigurd is the other side of
Thor, what the Thunder God lacked but now Thor is dead and Sigurd is the only
Thor now, a mortal Thor. Odin also reveals that Loki, equal to Thor, is most
favored of his children, which surprises Lukki. Kris asks what they are going to
do about Sigurd. Lukki says he is on his own but they can deal with the outer
manifestation…but she’s not going to like it….
Sigurd, trapped in the simulation
inside of the Midgard Serpent, lives on the street until he dies. And he is
reborn as a baby, grows up a rebellious young man, has a rough life, ends up
homeless again with the Serpent watching over him. But this time, Odin appears,
challenging the Serpent to let him takes his son’s place as Jormungandr’s Bane
[This was Lukki’s plan]. Odin flies off and the Serpent follows. And Sigurd
goes through the cycle of birth and death many, many times, always refusing to
yield to the Serpent. The Serpent faces Odin and needs all his strength so he
cannot waste any of it on Sigurd so he runs Sigurd though a vast array of
tortures but Sigurd still refuses to yield. And then the angry Serpent ejects
him from his body and pursues Odin around the world endlessly—until Lukki casts
his trick, forcing the Serpent to swallow his own tail forever. Odin then holds
out the Serpent and informs Sigurd he must now face the final judgment, the
journey into mystery, the quest through the winter to call back the Thor of the
Spring….
