Hulk #36 Review by (June 22, 2022)

Review: Spectacular art makes up for a story that’s a bit hard to follow if you haven’t read the older stories informing this one. But man, is that art intense! And I’m going to miss the Mini-Hulks, they were like the dessert after a dinner in this series.

Comments: First story: Zzzax first appeared in INCREDIBLE HULK #166; General Ross had his mind transferred to Zzzax’s body in issues #325-330 of that title. MODOK Superior was created in HULK #29. Second story: As the title implies, this is the last episode of Mini-Hulks in this series, including a brief farewell from writer Audrey Loeb.

Synopsis / Summary / Plot

Hulk #36 Synopsis by Peter Silvestro

In a Staten Island landfill, MODOK Superior purchases some H.A.M.M.E.R. tech that ended up on the black market….

Red Hulk has a vision of his childhood as Thaddeus Ross witnessing a plane crash then sees an electrical attack on a wind farm followed by violent deaths. He awakens and soon he and LMD Annie are in a helicopter investigating wind farms. In Iowa they find the one from the vision: a wrecked bus surrounded by dead people. Rulk can find no obvious cause of death but clearly they were able to run from whatever danger caught them. Annie is captured by MODOK Superior and nearby Rulk encounters Zzzax and recalls his former possession of the electrical creature as a weapon against Hulk. Rulk demands that the monster free the captive bus passengers he is draining the electricity from. It hits and keeps on hitting Rulk with electric shocks; MODOK reveals himself and explains who he is and wants Rulk to rejoin the alliance against Hulk, threatening Annie as an incentive. Instead, Rulk takes over control of Zzzax and electrocutes MODOK. The villain flees and Rulk knows he’ll be back with that little flaw fixed….

“Hulk Goodbye”

Synopsis: The Mini-Hulks are leaving so all of the other Mini-Marvels throw them a goodbye party. They blow out the candles which ends up splattering everyone else with cake and icing.
