Secret War #4 Review by (January 2, 2014)
Review: Very gritty art with a frighteningly intense use of color hides the fact that this issue is nothing more than an extended fight scene. This offbeat spy story has segued completely into a conventional superhero tale; Bendis has a lot of backtracking to do in the final issue to make this something to remember.

Comments: Black Widow is on the cover but does not appear in the issue. Boomerang and King Cobra have been added to the gang of villains since last issue; Crossfire and Eel, seen in the last issue, are now absent. The story doesn’t have a title but it’s not too hard to guess what it would be.

Synopsis / Summary / Plot

Secret War #4 Synopsis by Peter Silvestro

Late at night, Wolverine is sitting out in front of the school when he is attacked by two villains firing rockets, setting his clothes on fire….

At the hospital, the group of heroes Captain America, Daredevil, Spider-Man and Nick Fury are engaged in a horrific battle with a large group of high-tech villains. Cap and Fury send out urgent calls for back-up to everyone they can think of. Soon the Fantastic Four arrives on the scene to join in—but then so does a cyborg Lucia von Bardas, vowing vengeance against her foes. Suddenly, she springs her real plan: the tech suits of the assembled villains link together to create a massive bomb. As the chain reaction starts, Thing tries to break through the force field but can’t, Invisible Woman tries to contain it with one of her own but is unable to. The device explodes—and von Bardas has her triumph….

Additional material:

Ten pages of profiles of all the villains in the issue.
