Blood of the Fathers Part Two

Synopsis

Thor #32 synopsis by Peter Silvestro
Rating: 4 stars

In Latveria, Doctor Doom philosophizes on the meaning of life to Hela, Goddess of Death, trapped and helpless in a glass container. He shows her a soul in a flask, revealing it is Karnilla, forcing her to talk….

In Hel, Thor realizes that Odin’s soul is no longer in Mjolnir so he takes flight after the departing dragon Nidhogg, eater of the dead. Valkyrie (Jane Foster) stops a Valravn from eating one of Thor’s goats and stops the other goat from eating the dead, hitches them to the cart, and takes off after Thor. The Thunder God catches up to the dragon which turns to attack him….

Asgard, sixteen years in the future: A cloaked (and grown-up) Laussa arrives at a secret location but she is recognized by Hugin and Munin, the two ravens, which rush off to inform King Thor. Laussa rushes on her mission: she produces the villain’s glaive and uses it to reconstitute its bearer, Corvus Glaive, but he does not comprehend what is going on….

Nidhogg snaps Thor into its mouth but the Thunder God unleashes lightning inside to damage the dragon and escape. Nidhogg flies off and Thor joins Jane in the chariot and pursues….

The imprisoned Hela describes how to sacrifice the dead thus empowering Doom to be the one ruler of Earth. Doom will succeed where Bor failed but Hela tells him Bor did not fail, the ritual succeeded….

Asgard, future: Laussa learns from Corvus Glaive that he was searching for the Black Stone in the cave (issue #30) but she has looked and it isn’t there. But Glaive grows unresponsive; Thor enter to tell Laussa that Corvus Glaive may be alive but he lacks his soul. He warns her about returning to the Forbidden Zone but, knowing she will go anyway, returns to her a sword she won some years earlier….

Thor and Jane pursue Nidhogg to Latveria, where their chariot is shot down by Doom’s defenses. Thor tells Jane to find his father while he lands among Doom’s guards, whom he recognizes from the mirror in the cave….

Review / Commentaries

Thor #32 Review by (April 6, 2023)
Review: A guest artist takes over and his style is a bit more cartoonish than Nic Klein’s but with being distractingly so. The story does not advance very far, mainly centering on Thor fighting the dragon. Laussa’s, Glaive’s and Doom’s objectives are still too vague to excite interest. Next issue will likely feature a battle between Thor and Doctor Doom which holds promise, despite the misleading cover which suggests that said confrontation occurs in this issue.

Comments: Written by Torunn Gronbekk and Donny Cates. Most puzzling moment: In the future, there is a statue of the Hulk in Asgard.
