Synopsis

Daredevil (1964 series) #214 synopsis by reviewer Anthony Silvestro
Rating: 4 stars

Fresh off the events of last issue, Daredevil calls out Micah Synn for everything he’s done and promises there’ll be a reckoning! Daredevil quickly ascertains that Synn has fled and heads to have a chat with someone who might know where he went. Meanwhile, on the street below, Foggy and Debbie talk to the press, finally revealing Synn for the man he really is by reporting his murder of Professor Piper and his slave-like treatment of Debbie. Foggy also admits to lying when Becky previously spoke out against Synn. Nearby, one of Kingpin’s men is reporting on Synn’s whereabouts when Daredevil stops in to see him. Daredevil knew Fisk would have someone watching Synn, and he tells Daredevil that Synn headed downtown in a limo. Elsewhere, the Kingpin tells his men that the time is now right to move on Synn, with his forces and reputation now greatly diminished. He also tells them that Daredevil has outlived his usefulness and to eliminate him as well, should the opportunity arise.

At that moment, Micah Synn tells his limo driver to stop outside a street fair. He pushes his way to the front of a stand and starts wolfing down food. Another attendee doesn’t take too kindly to this and attacks Synn, who can only feebly fight back, his constant gorging having caught up with him. Synn shambles off only to discover his limo is now gone! A few blocks away, said limo’s driver reports Synn’s location to the Kingpin, who tells his men to isolate Synn far from the public eye and then kill him. Five of Fisk’s men load into a van and quickly find Synn. One of the men lines a shot up on Synn before another of the men hits him hard from behind, revealing himself to have been Daredevil in disguise the whole time! Daredevil quickly takes out the rest of Fisk’s men and relays a message to the driver for Fisk not to interfere anymore.

Meanwhile, at the building for WSAP TV news, one of their reporters details everything he’s found on Synn since his arrival in the U.S., including all of his run-ins with Daredevil. Back with Synn, he stumbles his way to a block of burned-out tenements while Fisk’s men resume their search under threat of death from their boss. Synn is welcomed in one of the abandoned buildings by some squatters. They introduce themselves and quickly take an interest in Synn’s medallion. They attack Synn, who is saved by the arrival of Daredevil. In the ensuing fight, the building gets set ablaze and Daredevil and Synn both escape the wreckage. Outside in the pouring rain, Fisk’s men have Synn at their mercy when they’re stopped by Daredevil yet again. He stylishly takes out all of Fisk’s men before calling out for Synn to face him. Utterly broken, Synn crawls on his hands and knees and begs for Daredevil to help him.

Daredevil (1964 series) #214 Review by (January 7, 2026)

Review: The War on Micah Synn concludes and it’s…good?? Yes, after having been very vocal about not exactly loving this whole meandering story, I actually think they stuck the landing. This issue finally drives home the point, and the metaphor of sin and greed that Synn represents. Synn had been gorging, being fed and protected, and once he was no longer being fed, Synn/sin lost much of his power. They also kind of throw in a warning about the dangers of western materialism having exacerbated his worst traits. I actually really like that there’s no big climactic confrontation with Synn. In fact, he goes down pretty pathetically, crawling on his hands and knees after Daredevil saves him, all against a very atmospheric rainfall. It’s reminiscent of old-time gangster movies when they finally run out of options and end things in a pathetic mess after spending the whole movie on top. And Mazzucchelli’s art makes all of this look positively gorgeous, his best art so far (thanks in part to him now inking himself)!

This issue is far from perfect though; Daredevil and Kingpin’s partnership ended up amounting to nothing and once Fisk actually moves on Synn, he goes down as easily as he probably always should have. You can’t help but feel Fisk could’ve done this earlier. Still, it’s the best this storyline ever was, it’s just a shame it was right at the end. I wish this storyline had been this quality the whole time. Instead, it felt like it spent so much time just kind of spinning its wheels, with questionable writing and plot threads that would end up going nowhere. Regardless of how much I surprisingly liked this ending, I still can’t say I’m at all sad about the fact that we literally never see Micah Synn again after this! He won’t be missed.

Comments: Final part of the War on Micah Synn, as well as Micah Synn’s final appearance.
