Synopsis

Captain America #131 synopsis by Peter Silvestro
Rating: 3 stars
The mysterious villain known as The Hood is poring over old photos of Captain America, seeking an idea for how to destroy him. When he comes across a picture of Cap with Bucky, he conceives a scheme to convince Cap that his old partner is still alive. Scouring the gyms of San Francisco in search of an athlete to play the fake Bucky, The Hood finally discovers a young man with acrobatic talent and no memory of his past. Wondering if this young man may even be the real Bucky, The Hood recruits him for his deadly plot. Sometime later, Steve Rogers arrives in San Francisco to the news that Bucky Barnes has been discovered alive. Racing over to the address given on the radio, Steve stops to change into his Captain America togs before entering. Once he is inside though, the doors and windows are sealed and Cap is confronted by The Hood unmasked—he is Baron Strucker, the Nazi weapons master. Cap is startled to see how closely the new Bucky resemble the original, but the young man is in a hypnotic trance, simply repeating, “I am Bucky Barnes” over and over. Strucker attacks with a series of weapons but Cap manages to defend himself. With the new Bucky’s usefulness over, Strucker hurls a spear at him; Cap deflects the weapon with his shield but leaves himself open to being hit with a chair by the Nazi. Strucker uses magnetic rings to tap the Avenger to the hands of a giant clock, and when the hands reach twelve, he will be electrocuted. Cap calls out to Bucky for help and the young hero, who has been hypnotized into believing he is the real Bucky, hits the controls releasing Cap who drops to the ground knocking Strucker unconscious.

Review / Commentaries

Captain America #131 Review by (February 15, 2010)
Strucker didn't really need to find a double for Bucky to lure Cap into his trap, a phony news report would have been sufficient, but we discover in the next issue that he was being manipulated by MODOK. Second of a three-part story.
