Story Name:

Panic on Park Avenue

Synopsis

Captain America (1968 series) #151 synopsis by Peter Silvestro
Rating: 3 stars
A dejected Steve Rogers walks the streets at night, brooding over his rejection by Nick Fury and the loss of Sharon Carter, when he is jumped by the Scorpion and Mister Hyde. Steve takes them by surprise with his strength and agility and manages to escape. The stunned villains move to their backup plan in their scheme of vengeance against SHIELD: kidnapping Sharon Carter. Later, the Falcon drops by to check on the kidnapped boy rescued last issue and he is taunted as an Uncle Tom by Rafe Michel and Leila Taylor. Returning to Sam’s office he is met by Captain America who relates the puzzling tale of his attack, puzzling because both villains were clearly reported dead. Elsewhere the villains fill the reader in on what has happened: they were put into suspended animation by the android Mister Kline and replaced by robot duplicates which were the ones destroyed, and have only recently awoken from their trances. Cap and the Falcon head to the Park Avenue townhouse that serves as the quarters for SHIELD’s female agents to warn Sharon; unfortunately, Cap can’t enter the building because of his loss of security clearance. The Scorpion and Hyde arrive on the scene and battle the heroes. When Sharon comes out to see what is happening, Hyde seizes her and threatens to kill her if Cap does not allow them to escape. Nick Fury arrives moments later to chew out Cap for trying to see Sharon; the bitter hero socks him on the jaw and walks off. The Falcon helpfully informs Fury that he has just made the biggest mistake of his career.
