Story Name:

Alone Against The Defenders!

Synopsis

The Incredible Hulk #207 synopsis by Julio Molina-Muscara
Rating: 3.5 stars

Hulk is on the terrace of a Manhattan building with the Defenders Doctor Strange, Valkyrie, Nighthawk and Red Guardian (Tania Belinsky). The atmosphere is too tense. Hulk hits the top of the building in anger, causing a large piece of it to fall. Doctor Strange casts a spell to save the policemen on the streets. Hulk sees such as treason to their friendship, so he attacks them. Strange captures Hulk using the mystic bands of Cyttorak.

Unable to shatter them, Hulk leaps high above. The fall causes the entire building to collapse. The Cyttorak spell gets broken. Strange saves his team using the Shield of the Seraphim. Hulk escapes through the NY sewers.

Several blocks away, the confused man-monster exits the tunnels to see a woman that seems Jarella from behind.

Unfortunately, it's not her, and he loses his cool once again. Nighthawk hits the Hulk, trying to reason with the monster.

The heroes gather around the green goliath who jumps at Strange, hitting the central column of a highway. As Dr. Strange holds the road structure with magic, the Red Guardian and Valkyrie attack the Hulk.

The emerald powerhouse pulls the enchanted Dragonfang sword from Valkyrie's grasp and uses it against her, taking both Valkyrie and Red Guardian at once.

Only Nighthawk stands between the man-monster and the city. He tries halting the Hulk with violence; doesn't work. As a last resort, he uses diplomacy and kindness to reason with the Hulk. Fortunately, he succeeds.

Hulk and Valkyrie fix the highway column before the entire group goes to Doctor Strange's mansion. There, Hulk tells them about Jarella's dire state and why he believed Strange, her last hope to "make her well again."

The Master of the Mystic Arts visits Gamma Base using his astral form. Unfortunately, he affirms what Doc Samson told the Hulk when he checked her (in Incredible Hulk #205); Jarella has passed away, and she cannot revive.

When Strange shares the awful confirmation with the Hulk, he blasts his fists in anger and desperation, destroying parts of the place. The owner does not interfere, letting the Hulk deal with the problem as he does best. Moments later, his rage turns into reasoning and sadness, as Valkyrie hugs him.

Finally, Hulk apologizes for the destruction and walks away. His friends don't dare stop him. Jarella, the one who loved him for who he was, is gone, so nothing matters anymore.

Also in this story: Thunderbolt Ross, Betty Ross, Glenn Talbot, Clay Quartermain, Wong.
